Bel: First meal in Budapest in this historical restaurant and we are glad to say that it was a great first impression of Hungarian cuisine. Not sure about the complaints seen in some of the reviews about the Goulash soup. We thought it was fine. Two of us share a big bowl. For the first main, we had Pork Medallions with Bacon, Cheese and Sour Cream. It also came with what we thought to be potato pancake. For the second main, we had Goode Liver with Apples and Mashed Potatoes. The combinations of the items were new to us, and in a good way. They were very tasty. The band did not come to our table but we noticed other tables did have to give tips to them for playing a few pieces at their table. Waiters were friendly as well and did not make any hint of tips. We would highly recommend this restaurant!
Kang Zi Jing: Apparently the oldest restaurant in Budapest (or maybe just Pest). Has a nice courtyard outside. Waiters were a little bit distant (which I prefer to having someone ask me how my food is every minute). Has live music. I had pork medallions and a homemade lemonade. Food was pretty good, but expensive in my opinion, compared to other options in the city, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

Yves: Nostalgic restaurant with nice courtyard and live music. Ordered goulash soup and cabbage with porc (originally wanted the stuffed cabbage which is not available here). Cabbage dish was nice the goulash soup was unfortunately tasteless and watery. A real disappointment for a Hungarian traditional dish. Service was good. Overall I would not go there again. There are better places in that price range around. As for the reply from the restaurant the goulash soup is supposed to be watery ( unlike the goulash stew) which I can accept. However it just had no taste to it.
Response: Dear Yves I am really sorry for your unpleasant experience at our restaurant. Unfortunately there is no demand for staffed cabbage, therefore it has not been placed on our menu. There are two different types of Goulash one of them is called Goulash soup, the other one Goulash stew. Most probably a misunderstanding happened when you ordered Goulash soup instead of Goulash Stew which needs to be watery.Thank you for your comment!
Gabriel Mihai: The famous restaurant in Budapest known as being the oldest still-serving in town seems to be frequented mostly by foreigners than locals. Maybe because of that, the orchestra has an international repertoire rather than a Hungarian one (it played Hora Staccato, Silent Night, Viennese waltzes, Hava Nagila, but too few romantic gypsy songs or Hungarian folk music). The vintage interior preserves the historical atmosphere, choosing a table inside could be (even during the summer) a better choice than outside, on the small and narrow terrace. Anyway, the final decision depends on the expectations and wishes of each guest, taking into account that the musicians will perform both inside and outside as well ... The menu is genuine Hungarian, mainly offering tasty pork (e.g. Mangalitza), venison and duck dishes (the grilled liver with potatoes was delicious) along with goulash soup. The wide list of wines offers multiple possibilities, with an emphasis on local ones (e.g. the excellent Tocaj Furmint, recommended by our charming waitress). Reservation is strongly recommended.
Toma Titova Duane: Very disappointed though we gonna have a lovely dinner on our last night in Budapest.Poor quality food, way overpriced for what you get. My husband ordered Hungarian mixed grill, got a plate of chips (you can see in the picture). I ordered chicken paprikash, i barely touched it.Do not waste your money do not go here.

Ibolya Violet Scott: The server was very friendly and helpful that is why I am giving the two stars otherwise I would give one or half star rating. I Chosen this restaurant specifically because the day before I was looking for chicken soup and they had it on the menu. The person from the restaurant who gives you the flyers with their menu and Food actually pointed out for me on the outside displayed menu and I told him I will be there tomorrow evening for dinner he said he’ll be happy to see me there. As I have come find out there was no chicken soup so I asked if there is any other soup beside goulash. There was a vegetable soup so I ordered that with stuffed cabbage. The soup had a little bitty of sour taste but it was good. The stuffed cabbage was so sour that it’s actually hurt my esophagus. I asked for bread and they told me that they out of pastry at 5:30 PM. The ratio on the stuffing 80% rice barely 20% of meat. I paid almost 6000 Hungarian forints which is about $15 to US dollar. After 26 years coming back home to my own country I was disappointed to seeing and tasting the flavors and the quality of the food at this class restaurant on the Washi St., Budapest would serve and sell is how much was overcharged and no value in the food. I have a bachelor‘s degree in culinary art that I earned here in hungry way back in 1995. I also own my own restaurant. Am I have gone for long years but I still remember the real taste of the true Hungarian cuisines. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant..
Ori Binyamin: After we see the sign "only want drinks? Come in" we thought it will be nice to have a coffee for me and my wife after a long walk in the cold weather. Unfortunately when we entered to the place The host came to us and ask if we want to eat or just to drink When we told her we want to drink a coffee The host became So rude and so unpleasant and told there is no option only drink inspeit what wrote in the big sign. It was so embarrassing and insulting aspecially the way the things were said! This is not the way to treat customers and certainly not to tourists!
Annalisa Iuracà: We were attracted by a “promoter” outside the restaurant, and because we were tired and hungry, we were lured in. AVOID this place. Customer service is totally nonexistent, even though we were the only and lonely ones inside the restaurant. It looks quite interesting from the outside, but inside you encounter one disappointment after another. The lady (owner) talked the whole time on the phone and appeared only to collect the bill. However, it was not possible to pay by card (apparently all the pos they had were out of order).
Sjoerd Sonnemans: Avoid this restaurant. Service has no clue what they’re doing. Everything from drinks to food takes way too long (we waited 15 min for 5 beers in a practically empty restaurant). Looks pretty interesting from the outside but ones inside it’s dissapointment after dissapointment your met with.
Ивона: Very good and cheap food. Mexican boy who is working here with his mom is really polite. Love to come back. Coctails have very nice and interesting taste. Fish is on point and restaurant brings me back to my childhood and looks like some Chinese restaurant. 💘

Jennifer Smith: The naming of this place doesn’t make sense and it’s super-touristy but the decor is loads of fun. A medieval British-themed restaurant serving Hungarian food? Sure! This place was recommended by our hotel and it didn’t disappoint. We ate around 5pm when the restaurant was fairly empty. I got the prawns platter and my husband the pork knuckle. Food arrived promptly after ordering. The portions are MASSIVE. Whilst it’s not the cheapest meal, the amount of prawn skewers on the plate (which were yummy, dotted with paprika) would easily cost double in London. Remember there are no forks! Only spoons and knives. So a bit tricky eating salad with the prawns with a spoon but figured it out. Eating with your hands is encouraged. We walked out super-stuffed and happy.

Huge selection of food, everything was fresh and the plates were very big. Would definitely come back again and can totally recommend it 👍

Good dishes, from tender and tasty meats, to abundant side dishes, do not give you forks to eat, but only knives to cut the dishes, you must use ONLY HANDS. Thomas Buelow: Nice restaurant and atmosphere. The food portions are big and the taste is, I assume how it was cooked in Mideval times. It could use some modern day spices or cooking techniques. But it is a fun place with lots to see for the kids. This is not a cheap meal.
Marinos Theodosiou: Far off from authentic. Tourist-centered, loud, busy, cramped but a lot of fun! Make sure you book a table with a group of company and be prepared for the show! The food was mediocre, lacked seasoning and flavour but the portions were absolutely Humongous. The beverages (beers mostly) were outstanding, especially served in those clay mugs. Overall, the experience was great. Like already said, tourist-centered but they put on a great show and for sure you will not leave from there hungry.
YICHING YEH (Haru): If you first time come to Budapest, this restaurant is a good place for you to eat. It is pretty cool. No fork, we ate by hands. Better to have reservation even working day, or come early around 5 pm.
ilias tzem: If you want something different and medieval, absolutely try this place! Nice and delicious food and good drinks! The beer is from another era! But, you must know that there is no forks in that place. Only spoon for the soups. They all eat with their hands like old medieval days!

Kiss Zsolt: If you are in Budapest and want to eat something really great then you need to visit Grundel. Probably it’s one of the greatest restaurants in Hungary. The service was on point. They are really paying attention to everything. They are also having live music that gives the place an extraordinary feeling. The food was one of the best that I have ever tried in Hungary. If you are having breakfast you really need to try Eggs Benedict. Really wonderful place to eat and really recommend it. The prices are also not that high.

Masha: The most delicious food I’ve eaten in Budapest so far. The prices are not too high, the sizes of the dishes are just perfect and the taste is mesmerizing. I really recommend to try the home lemonade (I really want to make one myself now). Also nearly every table is named after some popular person that ate there (Queen Elizabeth II, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Abba, etc.). 10/10

Bel: We had the signature Gundel Pancakes and award winning Somlo sponge cake with Gundel Coffee. All were great. If you are not into sweet stuff that much, best to share them. Make a reservation before coming as they are popular. Nice ambience and beautiful interiors. A recommended itinerary is to do Szechenyi Baths in the morning, Gundel Cafe for lunch and circus for after lunch activity. :)

Kata Budapest tour guide: Recently renovated super nice restaurant in the city park. Opened in the 19th century, long history, connected to Karoly Gundel’s name. Lovely dishes, tasty coffee, yummy cakes in an elegant atmosphere. Pleasant live music all day long. Open from 9 in the morning. Right next to the Zoo and Heroes square 😉

Kristian Kielmayer: Truly historic place in the little City Park (Városliget) of Budapest. Re-opened just recently so we kind of had some expectations but it was rather disappointing. Staff is friendly the interior looks fine. But then they have 2-3 different chairs which gives the place a strange feeling. We went for Saturday dinner, our part of the restaurant back half was only 50% full yet they still have such a close seating that you lose the intimacy and private feeling. Ca. 50cm to the next table is not really acceptable. The food was good, this was the good part and the majority of the 4 star rating is based on this as well as the people where friendly. But completely unorganized, there were plenty of waiters but lack of organisation (table next to us came 30 min later but got the main course earlier) left a sour taste overall.

Debra Shoopman: Christmas Day dinner. The restaurant was very busy. Staff was efficient and friendly. The food was delicious. Prices were a little high but very reasonable. I did not have a reservation, but luckily, I was able to be seated immediately. The decor is charming. I was lucky to be seated directly in front of the pastry chef where he was preparing strudel. It was amazing to watch him work. He made it look incredibly easy, the sign of a true expert. I was a solo diner, but never made to feel less important. If you have a group of 3 or more or want a back table for conversation or privacy I would suggest making reservations.
Jennifer Smith: I want to give this place five stars for the incredible interior design alone, and the very good food we overall had here. Sadly the service is AWFUL. You are seated straightaway in a very, very busy place and then the service disappears. So you have to flag down a waiter. The food comes very quickly after but being ignored for a time of tiring. That said we ate here two nights in a row as it stays open later than other places and as a said they food is very good. The first night I got the raspberry soup… and pickles (separately!) The soup was sweet as expected especially with the dollop of whipped cream atop and the pickles were sour. So I greatly enjoyed my meal. Excellent portion size. The second night I got the roasted fish with the veggie strudel. The dish was fairly bland including the strudel but my husband raved on his duck. The suggested wines are EXCELLENT but the pours are small for the prices. Overall not sure I would return.
Eleni Konstantinidou: I came across this nice restaurant during a walk on my first day at Budapest. It was a revelation! Friendly atmosphere, excellent service and above all, very tasty food! Great variety in the menu and a good presentation, along with pretty affordable prices, are the reasons for the 5 stars. Will visit it again, next time!
Nicolae Volonciu: Service was great! In the morning we had breakfast. The strudels are the best I ever had, with lots of filling and thin crust on the outside. At noon we had lunch. Food was great. We had Supreme chicken and a hungarian goulash soup and pickles. It’s a posh place with a nice retro decor.

Anastassia Moralieva: We went to Strudel House in June this year to try authentic strudels. Atmosphere is nice , you can also see the process of making strudels just in front of you. They have different flavours of fillings. The only thing we didn’t like was the service - the waiter seemed nervous and like he doesn’t want to be at work. There is also a service included of 13,5% in the bill to have it in mind.
Benjamin Adams: Excellent. Not a tourist trap despite the name. Fabulous food, only slightly let down by the brisk waiters. One of our best meals in Prague (and we mostly dined at Michelin Plate restaurants). The menu for dinner is amazing value, even with wine. Make sure you book and get a table up the end with the table clothes and the locals.
Andrew Chamaj: The restaurant has a nice outdoor seating area. It was pleasant to enjoy the weather there. The food is probably four stars. However, service is really slow. I sat down for lunch and it took at least 1.5 hours and I didn’t even get through the service. I ordered their Hungarian menu and it comes with a starter, main, and desert. After about 1.5 hours, I just asked for the check before the desert came (but after the coffee came). I just didn’t enjoy

Ajeesh-Musthafa: Good place to try out authentic Hungarian food. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. better yo reserve your seats or might take time to get seats in peak time. Almost all the dishes we tried was tasty. Goulash, meat stew, stuffed cabbage etc all are mouth watering. The starters are good too. So are the deserts

The menu is stacked and generally all dishes are good, with noticeable highlights like the Hungarian stew, goulash, and especially the roasted duck on risotto! The place also serves awesome drinks. Very reasonable prices, restaurant is classy and well-designed, and the service were very friendly. Highly recommended.
sara gaeini: Totally recommended 😎 We ordered some cocktails first, which was obviously made there and not ready ones. They tasted great and unique. Then for starters we tried goulash and I can confirm that we all love it 😍 It is tasty and really different taste. For main dish we tried four different ones and each of them was great. Well cooked meats, freshly salad and bread. I will go back for sure.
Michaela Lukáčová: Restaurant is located at quiet street and is a perfect place to have a lunch. You won’t wait for your meal for too long which is great if you are looking for high quality dish really fast. Hamburger was delicious. Meet perfectly seasoned, really good combination with gorgonzola cheese. I appreciated mayo and ketchup with fries. Soup was delicious. I also ordered beef stew. Almost everything was good apart from some pieces of meat that were really tough and chewy, it really ruined the experience. Hence only four stars.
Tsvetina Ilieva: This is an amazing restaurant with great atmosphere, polite staff and very delicious food! It was always full (we were staying in the building next door) and I understand why! We ate there 3 times, because we wanted to try traditional Hungarian food and we absolutely loved it! Prices are reasonable. Just try the garlic cream soup 😍
Ahmad Gilani: Great food and service! Everything was delicious including dessert. The staff were attentive and friendly. I got the roastbeef and it was delicious maybe a bit chewy but still great. The soup and liver dishes were also fantastic. Portions are big also. Could definitely come again if I pass by!
Filipa Castro: Amazing food and cool vibe inside. The prices are fair. It was the best restaurant I’ve been to in Budapest. We had goulash as a starter, the duck with mushroom risotto and the stew with spatzle, the chocolate cake and the floating island and everything was absolutely delicious. If I’m back to Budapest I’ll definitely come back to this one and strongly recommend it to friends. You should book a table in advance and, even though the booking said we had only one hour, we stayed for two with no problem.
Ying WANG: We came here twice during our stay. Garlic soup is a must try but very filling. Beef soup with dumplings is good as well. Markus Schmidt: Best restaurant in town and compared to other Michelin stars underrated. Have been to two and three stars across Europe and don’t understand that here we looking at one star only. Great food, innovative dishes, super friendly and attentive team. Will be back again and again :) whenever I am in Budapest.
Malte Holm: Having only one night in Budapest, we really had to choose from such a variety of one star Michelin restaurants. We were absolutely thrilled we picked Stand! Service is impeccable from the second you walk in the door and food is out of this world, with the best in local produce and creativity in the servings. Having been to many top restaurants in the world, this one stands out as one of the absolute best. Highly recommended and we’ll surely be back again in the future!

Alex Z: WOW! I am an absolute foodie and have been in many fine dining restaurants across the globe. Stand was an exceptional experience from start to end, and I am sure it is little time till there will be a second Michelin star. A few highlights: 1) Best-in-class staff, very attentive, know menu and ingredients inside-out, put customer needs first, 2) A menu that combines local Hungarian specialities with international/French touch, 3) Decorated to perfection, from amuse-bouche to petite fours, 4) just delicious food with a lot of surprising combinations — a true delight for a foodie. Posting a few picture, but they can unfortunately not capture the taste.

Eddy Rogers III: We stopped in late on Saturday night without a reservation and were able to get a table. I’m glad we did! We had an excellent meal, and the wine recommendation was great. Everything we ate had traditional roots with a modern twist, and it was all delivered with amazing service, even with our complete lack of Hungarian language skills. This was a great experience 👍👍

We had a contemporary degustation menu and I’ve truly never eaten anything better in my whole life. The prices are seemingly higher but for such a great experience it’s totally worth it. 10/10!

The quality and innovation level of the menu was excellent and definitely worth the visit. Atmosphere could have been better; not many guests and we were placed alone in the and our main waiter was a bit to snobbish, especially when we didn’t order a full bottle of wine, but “only” two glasses/person.

I was a bit worried at the beggining, because I am pescetarian/vegetarian, but I still eat meat on holidays. In a place called "Caviar&Bull" I was not sure. But I could chose a menu were I got very less meat and mostly fish. Nice Caviar choices and beautiful place. I loved the chefs table for desert. I am for sure coming back! Thanks for everything guys!

The space is arguably beautiful but that’s as far as it goes, as the food leaves much to be desired other than looking pretty. Found the gulasch to be super watery and the duck liver pate rather tasteless (as if it came straight out of a can). Ultimately overpriced food for what it is.

Indeed is really nice interior and since I booked a table around 14:00 there was almost empty no rush and I took all the pictures I wanted. Waiters are nice, prices are ok. And I wasn’t expecting anything amazing from the food since I read very bad comments about the food my Caesar salad was good. The vintage garden cocktail a bit too sweet. Overall is great to go in a non rush hour and order something simple.

A F: We had the 12 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Our overall rating was 3 since 3 or 4 meals were outstandingly nice. From a Michelin star restaurant you expect perfection. It was a nice experience and the service was very nice but there needs to be some adjustment on some of the meals. The duck heart dish had nice flavors but the heart was like a gummy bear. Kombucha was amazing and also the carrot dish. The stuffed paprika dish was ok but the meat was a bit over cooked. The bread was amazing as well. Overall experience is good but as mentioned would expect perfection from a Michelin star restaurant. I hope this feedback will be helpful for the restaurant. :)

Ra A: I had a massive disappointment. I had a fly in my wine and I asked to replaced the drink. In 5 minutes this happened again. There was some flies on my bread too and couldn’t enjoy. I only had less than half glass of wine. It would have been fair if they reduced the wine price from the total price to be honest. But It was included in the bill and I paid (my fault) because I wanted to leave. (In the reply, it’s said they replaced the wine twice but it was only one time, because I said I don’t want it anymore after this “small fly” jumped into my wine twice & to my food) I was the only one in the restaurant after 10, 20min of my arrival but the time between dishes were not the greatest. Food was decent but didn’t bring any the surprise. I like enjoying food visually but it didn’t happen at this place unfortunately.

Robert Strohmaier: One of our best food experiences in 2022! We’re lucky that we made it to this restaurant before New Year’s Eve… The staff are welcoming and attentive. The food was extraordinary - both in terms of presentation and tasting. We also enjoyed the homemade kombucha juices from the shelves in the restaurant. And you can spot the origin of the ingredients on a handmade map of 🇭🇺 on the blackboard at the wall! The food is very tasty, the service was quick and very professional and the staff very helpful. For a two persons dinner is not the cheapest place but not so expensive in my opinion. Dan Leal: The Hard Rock is the Hard Rock🤘same as it is every country so if you like the Hard Rock where you like it here. The most shocking thing is that the prices for alcohol are actually very reasonable and less than other tourist places close by. You can even get a bottle of local beer for $2.50 USD or Miller for $3. And as a bonus its very cool in the basement bar to escape the Summer 🌞🏖️ heat!

Chris Clement: Really nice casual place with a short but interesting lunch menu. Inside is a great shabby-chic atmosphere, and seating outside is in a pleasantly green square. Although I didn’t try it, the menu of delicious sounding house-made ice cream by the scoop looked great.

Our group of friends ordered a variety of plates and every single on of us was more than satisfied. The waiters were so friendly and eager at the end for us to try their desserts and they were right! Desiree Ayon: One of my top dining spots when I go to Budapest. Both the setting and the service are outstanding. Gabriel, who served as our host, was incredibly kind and accommodating. He also made some excellent food recommendations. Even though we were a group of 9, our drinks and food were still delivered quite quickly. Due to its popularity, we had to make our reservations two months in advance, but it was completely worth it. They had everything set up for our dinner, which was a birthday celebration. They brought a bottle of champagne and some cake at the end.

The starters were amazing but the mixed meat platter for two was poor, very dry meatballs and the same for the chicken. Quite expensive considering the quality but the atmosphere was great. Chloe H: This is a must for dining in Budapest. We were recommended by a friend and wow did it not disappoint. Whilst we did a walk in (got the last table) I recommend making a reservation. We tried and the next slot was over a week and a half away. Our dinner cost about £90 for two which consisted of 2 starters, 2 mains, 4 cocktails, water, jug of beer and two jägers. The food was delicious, the atmosphere amazing and our waitress was so accommodating. We will be back next time we are in Budapest.

We were hosted by Uri who went out of his way to explain some of the menu items to us and made our experience all the better with his ease of conversation and knowledge of the menu. With that said the food truly does speak for itself and my wife and I left not only with a full stomach and a smile on our face but also with a new cook book to add to our ever growing collection. Jess Gillett: Loved this place! Some of the tastiest Israeli/Middle Eastern food I’ve ever had. You definitely need to make a reservation as we arrived on Saturday and I couldn’t get a table until the day we left on Tuesday at lunchtime. But it was well worth it.

Nicholas Hood: First big notes, excellent ambience and decor. Really a beautiful interior with an airy feel and some live music some evenings. The ingredients were fresh and the offerings unique and clever and tasted carefully made. I thought it was a refreshing change to the typical Eastern European cuisine. I usually complain about the sodium content being too high but here was the rare instance I thought it could use more; not a significant complaint at all… The real complaint I have and I think it reasonable was the alcoholic cocktails (we ordered 4) were nearly without alcohol. I suppose not a serious issue but when you pay a certain amount for a mixed drink and mostly receive fruit juices and soda, it feels dishonest. I think this is a quality restaurant that keeps an eye on everything coming in and out of their establishment. It can’t be a mistake, they are intentionally serving low alcohol and seemingly for profit.
