Budapest History Museum / Castle Museum: what do users think?
Gareth Taggart
Gareth Taggart: A very thorough and informative experience that charts the history of Budapest. I had no idea just how turbulent a history it has had through the ages. The reconstructed areas, discovered during the recent archeological digs, are excellent.
SEEMA
SEEMA: You can spend a whole day reading about the history of Budapest or just make a quick tour in 2 hours. There is a musical experience area where you can play the instruments and one section offers modern interactive fun experience.
Davide Zanutto
Davide Zanutto: It’s an ok museum, there were not a lot of things to see. It is divided in three floors. From the bottom floor you can still go down to see the ruins of the antique castle. Guided tours are also available. You can enter for free with the Budapest card. Closed on Mondays.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No …More

Sam Roskam

hanna van der sluis
hanna van der sluis: Not the best museum for tourists: -Some signs weren’t translated in English -The signs that were in English were very hard to read, the sentences didn’t get to the main point and very boringly formulated. So for me and my friend it was mostly looking at pretty things instead of learning something. We went on a national holiday so the entry tickets were free which was nice!
Brisippus
Brisippus: Nice museum with some really interesting exhibits, though the staff aren’t very pleasant. I believe it was $7-$8 per person, really affordable, but they don’t tell you that you also need a “photo ticket” to be allowed to take pics of the exhibits. We absolutely would’ve paid this had we known if was necessary, and did take a few before one of the staff notified us that doing so required a specific ticket. It’d make more sense to work this additional fee into the price for general admission, as I think most people would like to take photos.
Anıl Günbattı
Anıl Günbattı: We used Budapest card to enter. Good museum but storyline could have been better. After 17th century storyline and evidences do not match. Something was missing. Yet you can learn a much more thing inside.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No …More

Lisa Dolinchuk
Lisa Dolinchuk: A really great museum, it was very interesting. Every room tells you about a different period of history. Also, if you need to spend some time somewhere, this is a great spot, as you can store the luggage for free in the museum as a visitor. But be aware, if you want to take photos, you would need to pay an extra fee.
Filip Mokrogulski
Filip Mokrogulski: From a person that was in a lot of museums in his life - EXTREMELY mean attitude from cashier alternative black haired girl after she asked us where we are from. Why would someone with this attitude work anywhere? Xenophobia? - mediocre museum, 2/5 exhibitions were interesting (personal preference) - Very hard to navigate where to go next - You have to pay to take photos in an national museum? Really? - Had a weird feeling that I’m watching the same thing for over and over - I really love the library section. The only section in my opinion that has attention to detail and is somehow unique - The staff from information point and people that guard the exhibition are absolutely lovely and caring
KoA555 // Kovács András
KoA555 // Kovács András: Fascinating artifacts, organized by rooms. Beware, it will take several hours to fully explore! 1000% worth the admission price if you have any interest for history - ancient, modern, or anything in between!Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking …More
Daniel Lo
Daniel Lo: Beautiful museum detailing the history of Hungary. We didn’t find any issues with the descriptions - all were perfectly fine. Although one turn off was that they were checking our tickets incessantly even though we needed a ticket to go up the stairs to go to the exhibition rooms..

Venu Javarappa
Venu Javarappa: Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic. Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse. Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed. I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.
Vilnis Volkovics
Vilnis Volkovics: Very easy to find, nice and quiet place. Tickets cost 3000 per person,if you are EU citizen younger than 26 you get some discounts. They will tell you to not take any pictures, and they try to monitor that very well, not all of them succeed 😊 Anyways good experience, well worth the money.
Mattia Mura
Mattia Mura: Great experience in here! A little creepy but really well made, you can learn a lot more about the dark pages of Hungarian history and feel a real contact with those times... Really recommended! Not good for impressionable people though
Georgiana G.
Georgiana G.: What a nice museum. The place is so well though out, with many exhibits and interactive areas. The museum is laid out on many floors. Make sure you do not skip any of them, like us😀. We realised we missed some areas so we returned. We got an audio guide and pick up the info paper at the entrance of each new area. We highly recommend it as a group, family or individual. It helps if you speak some Hungarian😉. There are information in English but there are artefacts and other written labels which are not translated. The staff is not very helpful nor friendly, you are not allowed to take photos. One guard in particular was so rigid that he almost helped us get into the back in the communist day’s atmosphere. There is a cafe and some vending machines too. I have no idea where one could park it’s car, we walked from our appartement. Do not miss the notebook as you exit, many people shared their thoughts and impressions there.
Merril Mascarenhas
Merril Mascarenhas: Museum with details on the horrors faced by the Hungarian people. Must visit once when in Hungary to know the atrocities suffered by the people here. You are sure to be moved emotionally by the end of the tour. You can buy the audio guide at the counter and the tour with all the explanation lasts for 2 hours if you listen to every detail. Skipping through the rooms is also possible. There is an elevator inside.
thomas braden
thomas braden: Definitely worth a visit to learn Hungarian history and see the devastation that these people survived, enduring Soviet occupation as recently as 1991. The visit is economical and educational albeit a bit disjointed. You certainly need the audio guide. There are no pictures allowed inside - lost one star for that. Ridiculous! Worse, if you pulled you phone out to say, Wikipedia something they were on you like, well I won’t say, but they came over in a millisecond to tell you to put it away. A powerful visit, not great for kids. Or if you’re claustrophobic, as one part involves a ridiculously slow elevator ride into the basement prison where they show a video describing execution by hanging in vivid detail. That lost the other star!

Jan S van der meer
Jan S van der meer: Very interesting and nice place to visit to learn a lot about the Hungarian natural heritage, special exhibitions about the hun empire and dinosaur who is find in Hungary make things extra interesting, however the downside of this museum is the layout and it feels like you are in a maze, lot of stairs but there are elevators available. The outside “dinosaur” garden could be more interesting, because now some dinosaur figures are planted without any information and it gives you no information at all. This said I still recommend to visit the museum at least once.
Razvan Manta
Razvan Manta: Fun experience at this National museum. Very fun way of designing the exhibitions. Art and modern gadgets all over the place. Many interesting games and spaces for children highly educational. A bit loud for my taste. Dont miss the outdoor dinousaurs.
MiraSand
MiraSand: Overall okay, mostly arranged and suitable for kids. Fun dino garden. Most specimens weren’t that impressive. Favourite part of it all was the insect exhibit. Wonderfully composed beetles and butterflies. Huge collection, very impressive .
Tal Cherniavsky

Joe Lobotka: A really touching, but brutal experience in the free-to-enter museum that reminds everybody what had probably occurred in 1956 on the Kossuth Lajos Square (above), when Soviet soldiers started to shoot into the crowd of ordinary locals, massacring up to 1000 people. You can see chronological facts, witness testimonies, items from the time (burned flags, bullets), or names and occupations of the victims. All very heavy, especially because I also come from the country that was terrorised and occupied by communists.

Museum of Ethnography: what do users think?
Steve Christian
Steve Christian: This used to be a parking lot. They built this double-winged structure with gardens on the wings and moved the parking lots underground. It is a very inspiring architectural fete that shows what is possible when the imagination is allowed to run free. The Google maps photo is in need of a refresh because it still shows the parking lot.
Philippe Jacques Kradolfer
Philippe Jacques Kradolfer: The Museum of Ethnography founded as the Ethnographic Department of the Hungarian National Museum in 1872. The museum is located in the Kossuth Square, opposite the Parliament building, therefore easy to visit the same day you visit the Parliament House. The grand building in which the Museum of Ethnography is now housed (It will move to another location??) was originally built for the Ministry of Justice. As many buildings in Budapest this is a beautiful building with many details on its facade, worth spending time to discover them.
Michael Chang
Michael Chang: One of the most unique buildings I have ever seen in person. I did not enter the museum, but did walk up the outside stairs for free. There is a beautiful public park on the roof that is free to the public. Worth a visit just to see the building.

Alexandra Dr. Kassai: The Museum is amazing inside-outside. The exhibitions are interesting I loved them 💯 I am very content with it! The stuff were nice and helpful they gave me a full introduction about the exhibitions.
SEEMA
SEEMA: This museum moved to the new building at HERO square. You can climb the outdoor stairs up to get a MAGNIFICENT panaromic view of the city.It is adjucent to the beautiful Varosliget park..
A B
A B: The website vague says what kind of exhibitions it currently has. So please check, as it was recently reopened, it does not yet offer the full collection. The museum building is interesting, a lot of stairs everywhere. I love the recreation of little Budapest, where you can use an iPad’s VR function to check out all the historic places, that’s very cool. The ethnography exhibition was nice, still waiting for the permanent one. There’s also some kind of coworking space, really nice. Overall, I recommend this place, but maybe come in half a year until they finish everything.
Miles Macdonald
Miles Macdonald: The first thing to note is the extraordinary design of this building designed to blend in, as far as possible, with the Park surroundings, 60% of the space is underground. The Ceramics exhibition is free with items from all ages, the oldest dated 4600 years ago. For the paid parts of this museum I found the "We have arrived" exhibition the most interesting. It presents ethnicity not via geographical zones, but through shared universal concepts like marriage, rituals, representation (artistic forms) etc. Walk up the sides of the museum for some great views. The outside design has an interesting story because the lines of design came from 20 different countries each contributing to one row along the museum side.
Tamas Budai
Tamas Budai: The difference is day and night when you compare this area to what it was before - a huge & dirty bus and car park. Beautifully executed landscaping with enough resting areas. On the other hand they should give out hefty fines to those who think this is nothing but a big trash can.. what a shame that those are even allowed to enter the area.

Alan Stephens
Alan Stephens: My abiding memory of this place was the length of the queues. Twice gave up on previous day. Strongly recommend online booking, you will still join a (lengthy) queue, but it moves quicker than general admission. Enjoyed Egyptian and Roman exhibits in lower levels. Paid extra to view Matisse exhibit, still not a fan of his paintings except early self portrait. Did like some of his sculpture particularly larger scale pieces. May have missed them but no English works, Turner etc, or impressionists. Subject matter very heavy on portraits, religious scenes, some beautifully done but how many faces do you want to look at? Did not see one sea scape, battle scene unless you count George and the dragon. What did like was how the 3 main halls had been created in different architectural styles. But overall felt a little disappointed. Maybe been spoiled by National Galleries in London, Madrid, and Rome.
Emma T.
Emma T.: Went to the Bosch exhibition on saturday. The line went on a medium speed, we waited around 15-20 minutes to get inside. Before entering we had to show our bags or leave them at the cloakroom. The place is wonderful and we saw lots of beautiful pieces of art. We also tried the restaurant, which had very limited options for vegetarians (rice and steamed vegetables is about as good as it gets) but it was quite nice nonetheless. Definitely a good spot for a quick, cheap lunch, a snack or a coffee and cake.
Irene Genelin
Irene Genelin: I visited the museum with my seven year old daughter. We enjoyed the interactive display of all the pieces of art, the Ancient Egypt exhibit, and the highest floor sculpture exhibit. We also had an afternoon refreshment in the cafe, and it was satisfying. I recommend a visit to this museum.

Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives: what do users think?
Sara Isabel Garcés Hernández
Sara Isabel Garcés Hernández: Is small but has pretty unique things. The entrance includes the synagogue, the cemetery, the museum and a guided tour with a nice cheerful guy. I recommend it.
Artem Mazhulin
Artem Mazhulin: Amazing place, lots of interesting artifacts. Learned a lot about Jewish culture and history. Especially holidays.
Liam Davies
Liam Davies: Lovely building. The visit was made more pleasurable by meeting one of the friendly staff in the museum who was full of insight into the exhibits.
Yasser Saber
Yasser Saber: very interesting historical facts about Jewish! not allowed to take pics but I did for this very famous chess player who was murdered in the 2nd world war!
Hendrik
Hendrik: Impressive, and a very nice guide. And of course the Holocaust brings silence every time you hear the story. I thought the €15 euro per person entry was a bit too step. Other than that an educative and impressive morning.
Flora Lin
Flora Lin: Although a bit pricy, the deal includes guide tours in several languages and a thorough museum at the end. The place commemorates the memory of the passed Jewish community and let us glimpse into their daily lives and rituals. The museum is touching and detailed. Would definitely recommend you to visit if you ever wish to come to Budapest.
Ray Ramjan
Ray Ramjan: Moorish architecture. A rip off. Should b free for everybody to visit. You could see the exact architecture in a mosque for free. Absolute waste of money. Dull history

Csepregi János: magical place
Éva Horváth
Éva Horváth: We took part in the tour with a small group, which we intended as a gift for our English teacher. Our young guide led us skillfully, thoroughly prepared, and with appropriate humor on the walk starting from the City Wall to the Main Customs House, and in the process told us interesting facts about the buildings in the area, the Serbian church and the great flood. I felt very well.
ro' ming
ro' ming: A little anonymous and neglected. It is a wall that has remained intact and arranged
Lehmann Jefte
Lehmann Jefte: The Budapest Historical City Wall Exhibition Hall is an exhibition space in the V. district, where you can view a longer section of the medieval city wall of Pest. The exhibition can be visited free of charge, and the key to the entrance can be obtained from the Budapest Pont office opposite, under Királyi Pál utca 18, during its opening hours.
Tamás Kolosy
Tamás Kolosy: Exploring the details of the medieval city wall of Pest is a real curiosity to see

J Y
J Y: Google coordinates are off.Museum is underground from the Deak Ferenc Ter stairs entrance
Morgan Flint
Morgan Flint: A really small, but nice museum explaining about the Budapest Metro. A shame that most of the text is only in Hungarian and other languages are generally not supported. But a really nice place. Be friendly enough and the attendant will even allow you into the metro cars!
iliyana ilieva
iliyana ilieva: We were there with the kids but the “museum” is really small, you can take the tour within 5 mins. Hosts speak no English at all, so we could learn nothing but watch the very limited things. Kids were not allowed to touch anything, so pure waste of time.
Pumpež Bogi
Pumpež Bogi: An absolutely lovely museum, teaches you about the interesting history of Budapest’s public transport system, how the underground was built and there are several underground coaches from different periods which you can board.
LEE Scott
LEE Scott: Small museum tucked away in ticket office. Ft300 for admission another ft500 for taking photos. Most descriptions are in Czech but being able to touch and feel the old rolling stocks is amazing.
